Intersection of Autism and Other Mental Health Conditions: Challenges of Assessment and Intervention in Adults

The presentation will cover the challenges providers face at this time to assess for autism spectrum disorder and how to tackle the problems encountered. Dr. Kirk will also discuss intervention challenges with adults who have co-occurring diagnoses.

Following the webinar you will be able to:

  • Describe co-occurring conditions and the intersection of their symptoms with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
  • Identify ways to provide assessment that provides coverage for the intersection in adults 
  •  Describe ways to treat the co-occurring problems and assess treatment outcomes

About the presenter: Sarah Kirk, PhD, ABPP

Dr. Kirk worked as a pediatric psychologist for 7 years after post-doc at Children’s Mercy in K.C., MO and then has worked for 15 years at KU as the Director of the KU Psychological Clinic and is a non-tenure track clinical psychology faculty member. Dr. Kirk is a licensed psychologist in KS and MO and has always worked providing clinical services with a wide range of presenting conditions and all age groups. Current area of clinical practice is anxiety disorders, autism spectrum disorder, and psychological testing. Dr. Kirk is currently an administrator and provides clinical supervision. Dr. Kirk is currently teaching graduate courses in Consultation and Supervision, Ethics and History, and Assessment.
